This 1931 Ford Model AA
1-1/2 Ton Truck began it's working life on an unknown
farm in eastern South Dakota. Equipped with a flatbed,
it was in service for over seventy years.
The current owner
acquired the truck in 2006. It was a running,
drivable truck that was complete and basically sound,
but thoroughly worn.
The truck had minimal rust; only the door bottoms, the
lower cab back panel, and parts of the floor needed to
be repaired. The wooden roof structure was
weathered and had to be replaced.
The owner wanted to
restore this truck to a condition that was at least as
good as new, to be used regularly for miscellaneous
hauling duties at his home near Clitherall, MN.
The truck will remain
essentially stock except for the following items:
The bodywork will be painted with clear-coat
paint. The engine will receive aluminum pistons,
insert-style rod bearings, and a vintage
high-compression cylinder head. The gravity-feed fuel
system will be updated with a
pressurized system that will include a frame-mounted
fuel tank and an electric fuel pump. The electrical
system will be upgraded to 12 volts and the wiring
replaced with modern, polyethylene-coated wire. A
few various parts will be chrome plated, such as the
grille shell and windshield frame.
The rest of the truck
will remain absolutely stock, right down to the manual
(non-hydraulic) brakes.
It is to be equipped
with a new hydraulic-tilt stake side flatbed with '30's
vintage styling.
